The Board of the Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club has made the decision to cancel all year end events.

As is always the case at the Hawks, we treat the health and wellbeing of our people with the utmost respect and diligence. In the interests of the health and welfare of all of our Players, Members, Committee, Supporters and Volunteers, and given the most unusual environment we find ourselves living in at the moment, the Club has decided to cancel our end of season events.

This includes both Senior and Junior Presentation Nights.

We have considered all available information from the Health Authorities, Government Agencies, Cricket Victoria, and Cricket Australia, so this decision has not been made lightly.

Whilst schools are still operating as normal it was suggested that maybe we hold a Junior night with just the kids, however this still imparts a significant risk to our Volunteers, several of whom, are in the critical age bracket if infected.

For those that have already booked and paid for tickets to these events, the Club will offer a refund. Please give us some time to make this happen.

The Club is investigating the possibility of a video streaming event to announce the award winners, so I’d ask you to keep your eye on our website ( or our facebook page ( As a minimum, a list of trophy winners will be published in coming weeks, both on the website and through our social media channels. We will arrange collection of trophies following the impending publication and notification to the recipients.

As many will know, Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria made the decision on Tuesday 17th March to cancel the remainder of the Sheffield Shield competition and Premier Cricket season, predominantly the final’s series, and are expecting that all local community cricket and school competitions will follow suit. This currently appears to be the case. Local and Community football has also been impacted with most leagues and associations following the guidelines and directions of the AFL, and delaying a start to their seasons. This includes a recommendation to suspend training activities.

As all communities, organisations and institutions around the world rally to slow the spread of the coronavirus, so must we. We hope that by taking these actions now we can play a small part in ‘flattening the curve’ and stemming the spread of the virus.
